3D Printing Training

The Saint Martin's University Robotics Lab requires all users to complete 3D printing training before operating 3D printing equipment independently. This certification ensures safe operation and proper maintenance of our equipment.

Training Overview

3D printing training is conducted in-person with lab staff and covers:

  • Safety procedures - Proper handling of heated components, ventilation, and material safety
  • Equipment operation - Step-by-step printer setup, bed leveling, and print monitoring
  • Software workflow - Slicing software configuration and file preparation
  • Maintenance basics - Routine cleaning, nozzle care, and troubleshooting
  • Material handling - Proper storage and handling of filaments and resins
  • Training Requirements

    To schedule 3D printing training:

  • Prerequisites: Must be an approved lab member with completed profile
  • Scheduling: Contact lab staff to arrange a training session
  • Duration: Training typically takes 2-3 hours depending on experience level
  • Certification: Successfully demonstrate safe operation to receive certification
  • Equipment Covered

Training includes certification on the following equipment:

    FDM Printers

  • Operation of fused deposition modeling printers
  • Filament loading and unloading procedures
  • Bed adhesion and print removal techniques
  • Safety Protocols

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Ventilation and air quality considerations
  • Emergency shutdown procedures
  • Material safety data sheet (MSDS) review
  • Post-Training Responsibilities

After completing training, certified users must:

  • Follow all safety protocols learned during training
  • Report equipment issues immediately to lab staff
  • Assist new users under supervision when requested
  • Maintain certification through periodic refresher sessions
